Argentina exports to EU rise 19% following Mercosur trade agreement

Argentina is projected to reach a historic export record of US$103.2 billion in 2026, driven by strong performance in the energy, mining, and agro-industrial sectors. Between January and July 2026, total exports reached US$58.365 billion, a 22.9% increase compared to the same period in 2025.

Exports to the European Union have seen a significant boost, rising 19% to US$5,191 million during the first seven months of the year. This growth coincides with the provisional application of the Mercosur-EU Interim Trade Agreement, which took effect on May 1, 2026. The agreement provides for zero tariffs on all industrial goods and the liberalization of 82% of agricultural products entering the European market.

Key agro-industrial products are benefiting from specific quotas and preferential conditions. Argentine exporters have already utilized the full quota for eggs and nearly all of the quota for egg albumin. Additionally, Argentina supplies over 70% of the honey quota, more than half of the ethanol quota, and over one-third of the rice quota allocated to the EU. Beef exported under the Hilton Quota now enters the European Union without import duties.
