Argentina extends intervention of cannabis regulator ARICCAME

The Argentine government has extended the intervention of the Regulatory Agency for the Hemp and Medicinal Cannabis Industry (ARICCAME) for an additional year. Through Decree 1147/2026, the administration reappointed Ignacio Ferrari as the interventor, maintaining his role with the rank and hierarchy of national director.

The decision follows a period of legislative tension. While the executive branch had previously attempted to dissolve the agency to redistribute its regulatory functions between ANMAT and the Secretariat of Industry and Commerce, the Argentine Congress rejected those measures, ordering the agency to maintain its full legal standing.

The extension is justified by ongoing institutional and regulatory tasks, including the adaptation of the agency's organic structure, the continuity of licensing procedures, and the development of pending regulatory frameworks. Until the agency achieves full operational capacity, the Ministry of Economy will continue to manage its budgetary, accounting, financial, and human resources services.
