Argentina faces 227,000 pending disability pension requests as benefits lag inflation

More than 227,000 Argentinians are still awaiting a decision on disability pension applications, with only about 10,400 requests resolved in over two years. The pensions grew 24.3% between June 2025 and June 2026, while inflation hit 33.5%, leaving benefits about nine percentage points below price increases.

The delay affects families and service providers; centers such as the IPNA Day Center in Cañuelas report reduced capacity and financial strain. Alex Goldman, president of the center and spokesperson for the Argentine Council for Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, said the center “builds autonomy, links and routines that mean the difference between exclusion and a dignified life.” Organizations including CELS and REDI warn that the backlog threatens day‑care, transport and other essential services for people with disabilities.
