Bolivia faces political unrest and security challenges
Bolivia is facing significant political and social tension as supporters of former President Evo Morales prepare marches toward La Paz, starting October 13. The protesters are demanding the reversal of government decrees that eliminate diesel subsidies and reorganize state enterprises.
In response to rising transnational organized crime and narcoterrorism, President Rodrigo Paz has proposed the creation of a regional security shield through coordination with neighboring countries, including Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, and Peru. Paz also warned that blockades intended to protest economic policies would be detrimental to the nation's economy and families.
Simultaneously, in the region, Evo Morales and various leftist organizations have formed the CIMA coalition to oppose the 'Shield of the Americas' initiative. This coalition aims to build a front against perceived foreign interventionism.
In Honduras, the National Congress is advancing reforms to the Penal Code. These changes aim to strengthen the fight against criminal organizations and include a new measure allowing the anticipatory use of assets seized from criminal activities to fund security and justice institutions.
