Argentina faces rise in non-consensual AI deepfake pornography

A study by the Instituto de Diálogo Estratégico (ISD) highlights the growing phenomenon of non-consensual AI-generated pornographic deepfakes in Argentina. This form of technology-facilitated gender violence is proliferating among adolescents and young people, spreading via social media, messaging platforms, and websites.

Recent cases in Argentina illustrate the scale of the issue. Students at the Escuela Superior de Comercio Carlos Pellegrini and the Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires were found distributing manipulated images of female classmates via WhatsApp. In San Jerónimo Sud, Santa Fe, over 80 women were targeted by a neighbor using AI to create pornographic content. Additionally, the judiciary in Córdoba recently announced a trial for a young man who published AI-edited images of schoolmates on an adult website.

While these incidents are often viewed as isolated acts of revenge by individual men, the research suggests a broader, more systemic trend of digital violence.
