Argentina faces risk of losing herd immunity due to falling vaccination rates

Infectious disease specialist Hugo Pizzi has warned that declining vaccination coverage in Argentina poses a significant risk of losing herd immunity. He noted that immunization levels, which were approximately 90% before the pandemic, dropped to 70% following the pandemic, and some vaccines have now fallen to as low as 50%.

This decline creates conditions for preventable diseases to resurface among susceptible populations. Pizzi cited measles as a critical warning sign, noting recent challenges with the highly contagious disease in North America, including the United States, Canada, and Mexico. In Argentina, health authorities in Misiones have expressed specific concern regarding decreasing vaccination rates among children and adolescents.
