Argentina faces scrutiny over institutional failures and legislative disputes
The “Cuadernos” corruption case has highlighted significant deficiencies in Argentina's institutional oversight systems. An analysis presented at the Buenos Aires Bar Association revealed that a massive public works corruption network, involving the circulation of large sums of cash, went undetected by multiple regulatory bodies including the Auditoría General de la Nación, the Sindicatura General, and the Office of Anticorruption. Experts suggest these failures stem from regulator capture, institutional fragmentation, and a collective normalization of corruption.
Separately, in the Argentine Congress, Deputy Miguel Ángel Pichetto criticized the government for failing to comply with laws regarding disability emergency measures and university financing. Pichetto noted that despite the legislature overriding executive vetoes with two-thirds majorities, the laws remain unfulfilled. He warned that such legal non-compliance risks deterring foreign investment and threatens the stability of the national university system and social mobility.
