Argentina faces winter gas shortages amid storage shortfalls and regional supply cuts

Former Energy Secretary Daniel Montamat said Argentina has large natural gas reserves, but insufficient storage and outdated pricing rules have caused winter supply problems. He highlighted the lack of gas‑storage facilities, the need for new pipelines such as the Perito Moreno project and the La Carlota node, and warned that the situation may improve next year as new infrastructure comes online.

Tucumán Province’s Minister of Economy and Production, Daniel Abad, sent a note to the national Energy Ministry urging equitable federal criteria after the region received a 70% cut to industrial gas deliveries, with a further reduction to zero expected within days. The province reports companies paying up to $27 per million BTU for imported gas, compared with $3 elsewhere, threatening production, jobs and regional competitiveness.
