Argentina Federal Court Halts Jujuy Justicialist Party Primary

Federal judge Esteban Eduardo Hansen, who has electoral jurisdiction in Jujuy, issued a precautionary ruling that suspends the internal election schedule of the Justicialist Party (PJ) in the province. The measure was requested by the "Celeste y Blanca" list, which alleges that the party's electoral board treated it differently from the rival "Generación Valiente" list, granting the latter a deadline to correct its filing while rejecting the former without such an opportunity. Hansen said urgent judicial protection was needed to avoid jeopardising the parties' right to effective legal recourse as the deadline for officialising candidate lists approached. The suspension does not resolve the substantive dispute and the internal election will remain paused until the court decides on the underlying appeal.

The ruling stops the PJ's electoral board from conducting further acts or proclaiming new authorities in Jujuy until a final decision is rendered, preserving the status quo while the legal challenge proceeds.
