Argentina Federal Court to review AMIA bombing indictments

The Sala I of the Federal Chamber of Comodoro Py has scheduled an audience for November 24 to review the indictments of eight Iranian and Lebanese citizens accused of organizing and executing the 1994 AMIA bombing. The attack resulted in 85 deaths.

Judges Pablo Yadarola and Mariano Llorens will preside over the hearing, which will evaluate submissions from the prosecution, official defense, and plaintiffs. If the indictments are upheld, the case could proceed to an oral trial in absentia. This legal mechanism, recently regulated by Congress for serious crimes such as terrorism, allows for proceedings even when the accused are not in custody.

The eight individuals indicted by Judge Daniel Rafecas include former Iranian Intelligence Minister Ali Fallahijan, former Foreign Minister Alí Velayati, former Revolutionary Guard commander Mohsen Rezai, former Al Quds commander Ahmad Vahidi, former Iranian Ambassador Hadi Soleimanpour, former embassy cultural counselor Mohsen Rabbani, intelligence agent Ahmad Asghari, and Hezbollah member Salman Raouf Salman. They face charges of aggravated homicide and injuries. Additionally, the court will address appeals regarding the lack of merit rulings for Abdallah Salman and Hussein Mouzannar.
