Argentina fishing authorities evaluate shrimp season in ZVPJM
Fishing authorities are currently evaluating whether to prospect Subarea 10 or terminate shrimp fishing activities within the Permanent Hake Juvenile Ban Zone (ZVPJM). This decision follows operational reports indicating that hake levels in Subareas 7 and 8 are approaching the limits required to sustain commercial fishing.
While the official decision is pending, much of the fishing fleet has already begun shifting operations to sectors outside the ZVPJM. Reports from these external areas indicate higher concentrations of larger, commercial-sized shrimp and a cleaner composition with minimal incidental hake catch. This shift allows the fleet to maintain operations even if authorities decide to close the ZVPJM sectors.
