Argentina fixed-term deposit rates rise, banks offer higher July returns on $2 million investments
Argentina’s major banks are reporting higher yields on short‑term fixed‑term deposits as the central bank liberalised minimum rates. Banco Galicia’s 30‑day nominal annual rate of 19 % would generate roughly $31,233 in profit on a $2 million deposit, positioning it among the country’s most attractive offers.
At Banco Nación, the same $2 million placed for 30 days yields $25,479 when the account is opened in a branch (15.5 % TNA) but jumps to $31,233 when the deposit is made through home‑banking or the bank’s app (19 % TNA). The divergence highlights how electronic channels now match the highest rates in the market.
These developments come after the Argentine Central Bank (BCRA) lifted the floor on deposit rates, prompting banks to set their own terms and widening the gap between institutions. Savers are urged to compare offers closely as the market adjusts.
