Argentina food assistance demand rises amid economic crisis
Economic instability in Argentina is driving a surge in demand for food assistance at community centers and soup kitchens. In Junín, the Fundación Don Ito reports that attendance at its seven community spaces has increased by 30% to 40%. This rise in demand includes not only children but also entire families and elderly individuals seeking basic food supplies.
These organizations face a dual challenge: a growing number of people in need and a simultaneous decrease in available resources. Private donations, a primary source of food, have declined due to the economic climate, making it difficult for centers to sustain their services.
In Córdoba, the Ángel de la Guarda community center in the San Ignacio neighborhood is also struggling. The facility, which provides snacks to over 250 children and adults twice a week, reports it has not received municipal assistance for two months. The center is currently appealing to the public for donations of essential items such as milk, sugar, yerba, bread, and biscuits to continue its operations.
