Argentina football unites as World Cup clash and Champions League qualifiers kick off

AFA president Chiqui Tapia posted a photograph from Atlanta showing himself with Lionel Messi and Rodrigo De Paul, urging national unity ahead of Argentina’s Round‑of‑16 World Cup match against Egypt. The image, shared on social media, highlighted the federation’s support for the team as it prepares for the high‑stakes knockout game.

At the same time, Argentine players are featuring across Europe in the first qualifying round of the new Champions League season. Twelve Argentines are spread among seven clubs, including Vardar Skopje (North Macedonia) and Floriana FC (Malta) with three players each, as well as representatives in Finland, Lithuania, Gibraltar, Kazakhstan, the Faroe Islands, and others. The qualifiers run on 7–8 July (first leg) and 14–15 July (second leg), offering the diaspora of Argentine talent a chance to progress toward the group stage.

Both stories illustrate the broad presence of Argentine football on the global stage, from the World Cup’s biggest tournament to the continental club competition.
