Argentina gastroenterologist alleges PAMI billed for nonexistent procedures in Río Grande

Dr. Carlos Mariño Camacho, a gastroenterologist who provides services to the public health insurer PAMI in Río Grande, said he has been warning since February 2025 about alleged irregularities in the billing of medical procedures that were never performed. He claims the private Clínica Médici billed PAMI for an anal biofeedback study that the clinic does not have the equipment or expertise to carry out, and that the urology department was listed as the provider.

Camacho sent formal letters requesting clarification, met repeatedly with PAMI officials, and reported the issue to provincial health authorities. He announced plans to present additional evidence together with local deputy Jorge Araujo, demanding transparency and corrective action.

The case highlights concerns over possible fraud in the public health system’s reimbursement process in the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego.
