Argentina goalkeeper Dibu Martínez receives custom finger‑protecting bands from Mar del Plata innovators

Two young entrepreneurs from Mar del Plata, Leandro and Francisco, designed a system of containment bands to limit abrupt finger movements that can cause injuries. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) contacted them to create a version for goalkeeper Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez’s injured right ring finger. They delivered the prototype free of charge; it was examined by kinesiologists and medical staff of the national team and received approval for potential use.

Martínez later showed favorable progress, completing a training session despite mild pain and signalling confidence by closing his fists. Coach Lionel Scaloni is finalising the squad for Argentina’s World Cup opener against Algeria in Kansas. The development of the protective bands and Martínez’s recovery are highlighted as key factors ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
