Argentina revises passenger transport insurance and boosts national bus fares

The Superintendency of Insurance (SSN) issued Resolution 300/2026, unifying the mandatory civil‑liability insurance for inter‑jurisdictional and free‑offer passenger‑transport services under a single policy model and removing outdated administrative requirements. The reform aligns insurance rules with the new national transport regulatory framework, aiming to cut bureaucracy and improve safety for operators and passengers.

In parallel, the Ministry of Economy’s Transport Secretariat approved a 2 % rise in the technical fare for nationally‑jurisdictioned buses, setting the average technical fare at $1,816 per passenger and increasing state subsidies to reflect higher diesel costs. While the subsidy boost addresses operators’ cost pressures, industry groups say it still falls short of the estimated $2,138 real cost per passenger.

Effective 15 July, the same secretariat implemented the final stage of a 6 % incremental fare hike for AMBA bus lines, raising the minimum fare for registered SUBE cards to $742.81. A detailed tariff schedule now applies to all distance bands, with higher prices for unregistered or non‑named SUBE cards and a 55 % discount maintained for the social tariff.
