Argentina government reaches university financing and salary agreement

Argentina’s government and the Consejo Interuniversitario Nacional (CIN) signed an agreement to end a months‑long dispute over public university financing. The deal provides a 24.33% wage recomposition for university staff – 21.33% in June and a further 3% in October – and a 20% increase in operating‑budget allocations. It also earmarks an additional 50 billion pesos for university hospitals and raises the Manuel Belgrano scholarship programme by 50%. Paritary negotiations will be convened at least every three months, and the universities will continue to pursue their judicial claim that the state must fully apply the Law of University Financing.

The accord aims to relieve the fiscal pressure on universities and restore salary purchasing power after the devaluation that followed President Javier Milei’s administration, while the legal challenge over the financing law remains pending before the Supreme Court.
