Argentina grants crypto tax break as JetSmart pledges $550 M expansion
President Javier Milei issued an executive order exempting registered virtual‑asset service providers from Argentina’s “cheque” tax, a levy that has applied to crypto exchanges since 2021. The measure aims to level the playing field with traditional banks and encourage the inclusion of crypto platforms in the country’s financial system.
Low‑cost carrier JetSmart announced it will invest more than $550 million to expand its Argentine operations. The funding will grow its fleet in the country to 23 aircraft by January 2027 and add new domestic routes, including services to Posadas, San Juan, Santiago del Estero and Jujuy, as well as an international Buenos Aires‑Maceió link to Brazil. The expansion comes as rival Flybondi contracts its network, and JetSmart’s backer, Indigo Partners, sees the move as an endorsement of Milei’s economic programme.
