Argentina: Grocery basket price jumps 31% in Misiones, 32% in Buenos Aires interior

An Analytica report for April 2026 shows the monthly food and drink basket for a typical family in Misiones costs 867,273 pesos, a 31.5% year‑on‑year increase and a 1.9% rise from the previous month. The province now ranks third nationally for price level, losing its former status as the cheapest region.

In the interior of Buenos Aires province, the same basket costs about 871,000 pesos, reflecting an almost 32‑point rise over the past year. The surge in cost disproportionately burdens low‑wage households: in Misiones the basket consumes roughly 33% of average family income, double the 17.2% share in Buenos Aires city. Essential items such as sunflower oil have driven part of the increase. Analysts link the worsening affordability to stagnant wages amid President Javier Milei's economic policies, highlighting growing vulnerability for workers in Argentina’s poorer regions.
