Argentina has 150 taxes, over half municipal but most revenue comes from six main levies

In 2026 Argentina recorded 150 distinct taxes, fees, contributions and duties spread across three levels of government: 40 at the national level, 28 in the provinces and 82 in municipalities. Although municipal taxes represent more than half of all distinct levies, they contribute only about 13.3% of total tax revenue.

Fiscal collections are heavily concentrated: six taxes account for roughly 85% of all receipts. The value‑added tax (IVA) provides the largest share at 25% of total revenue, followed by social‑security contributions (19%) and the personal income tax (18%). The provincial gross‑income tax (Ingresos Brutos) adds 14.7%, the tax on bank checks 6%, and the municipal security and hygiene fee 2.6%. Ten taxes together explain about 94% of the nation’s tax intake. Overall tax collection is projected to equal 26.6% of Argentina’s GDP for 2026, a slight decline in the number of distinct taxes from 155 the previous year.
