Argentina health authorities manage blood donation trends
Health authorities in Argentina are addressing varying trends in blood donation across different regions. In Entre Ríos, the Ministry of Health is actively promoting voluntary donation through the Provincial Hemotherapy Program (PPH). The program has conducted 51 external collections between January and September, traveling over 7,000 kilometers to reach various localities. Additionally, the province has implemented training workshops for approximately 1,000 teachers to encourage community awareness.
In contrast, the La Plata Regional Hemotherapy Center in Buenos Aires province has reported a decline in donors. Data shows a 22% year-on-year decrease in September, with 1,674 donors compared to 2,150 during the same period last year. Currently, the center averages 64 donors per day, while officials state that between 100 and 120 daily donors are required to maintain necessary transfusion reserves. While the situation is not yet critical, health officials are calling for increased solidarity to stabilize stocks.
