Argentina health officials report rising syphilis cases

Health authorities in Argentina are responding to rising syphilis rates in different regions. In the Capital, the municipality has launched intensive rapid testing campaigns in strategic urban locations. Alejandra Medina, head of the Laboratory Division, reported that syphilis diagnoses have increased significantly, even surpassing HIV cases in recent findings.

In Tierra del Fuego, Dr. Franco Cinel, head of the provincial HIV and STI Program, noted that the province recorded approximately 400 cases in 2025. This rate is higher than the national average. The majority of these cases are concentrated in the 24 to 40 age demographic, with an equal distribution between sexes. Health officials warn that many cases remain asymptomatic, complicating early detection.
