Argentina health officials respond to foodborne illness outbreaks

The municipality of Coronel Pringles announced training and prevention campaigns after a gastroenterocolitis outbreak linked to a charitable food sale. Eighteen people were treated at the municipal hospital, with three placed under observation; up to 40 residents reported symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, fever and abdominal pain.

In Buenos Aires Province, the provincial health ministry reported 212 confirmed cases of trichinosis as of 22 July, a 4.6‑fold increase over the same period in 2025. The cases are tied to consumption of homemade and commercial chacinados, with control actions including treatment with albendazole and mebendazole and laboratory investigations led by the Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.

Both incidents have prompted authorities to reinforce food‑handling education, improve laboratory testing, and monitor future outbreaks across the region.
