Argentina health reports show rising hypertension and obesity

Health data from Argentina reveals significant public health challenges regarding chronic diseases and nutrition. In Entre Ríos, the Ministry of Health reported that over 40% of adults suffer from hypertension, while 25% are obese and 22% smoke. Additionally, 40% of adults do not engage in sufficient physical activity, and only 3.7% meet the recommended daily intake of fruits and vegetables. Cardiovascular diseases account for approximately 30% of deaths in both Entre Ríos and Argentina.

In Bariloche, research conducted by pediatricians from Ramón Carrillo Hospital and the Nutrir Foundation highlights a rising trend in childhood obesity. Studies involving students from 31 schools show that 35% of children in first grade are overweight or obese, a figure that rises to 53% by seventh grade. Researchers noted that older children with obesity also reported higher levels of perceived stress. A pilot program to implement intervention strategies in a public school is planned for 2027.
