Universidad San Sebastián launches breastfeeding support project
The Universidad San Sebastián (USS) has launched a collaborative project with the Hospital Base Valdivia to improve breastfeeding rates. The initiative addresses a significant gap in exclusive breastfeeding among mothers of newborns in the Neonatology Unit, where rates were recorded at only 24% in 2024.
Led by academic Heidy Kotthoff, the project provides personalized support, educational actions, and technical guidance to postpartum women. It also serves as an interdisciplinary training platform for health students.
Other regional health initiatives include medical training sessions on Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome in Argentina, vaccination and prevention drives in Clorinda, and gynecological care services for women in Jusepín, Venezuela.
