Rosario protesters demand national emergency against gender violence

Feminist organizations and collectives held a large-scale march in Rosario, Argentina, to demand a national emergency declaration regarding violence against women. The demonstration, organized by groups including the Asamblea Lesbotransfeminista, moved from Plaza 25 de Mayo to Plaza San Martín.

The protest follows several recent high-profile femicides and attempted femicides in the city, including the cases of Carina Andrea Candelas, Gabriela Banach, and Débora Bordón, as well as a violent attack on an 18-year-old woman. Protesters criticized the current state of public policy and called for increased prevention and protection measures.

Data from the observatory 'Ahora Que Sí Nos Ven' highlights the severity of the situation, reporting 147 femicides and 234 attempted femicides in Argentina between January 1 and July 31, 2026. The statistics show that 64% of aggressors were partners or former partners of the victims.
