Argentina and Spain advance in 2026 Hockey World Cup

The 2026 FIH Hockey World Cup in Belgium and the Netherlands has entered its second phase, with major national teams securing advancement.

Argentina’s men’s team, Los Leones, dominated the first round by defeating New Zealand 7-1. Tomás Domene scored a hat-trick, while Bautista Capurro added two goals, with Tadeo Marcucci and Nicolás Keenan also scoring. Argentina moves to Pool E, where they will face England and India.

Argentina’s women’s team, Las Leonas, also advanced to the second round after a 2-0 victory over Scotland, featuring goals from María José Granatto and Lara Casas. They will compete in Pool F alongside Spain and Belgium.

Spain’s men’s team, the RedSticks, secured their place in the next round with a 2-1 win over Germany, highlighted by two goals from Chefo Basterra. Spain also recorded a 3-1 victory against Ireland earlier in the tournament, finishing second in Group C behind Australia.
