Argentina homes pursue cheaper, safer heating as energy bills rise

Rising utility tariffs and poorly insulated houses are driving Argentine homeowners to look for more efficient, safer heating solutions. Experts stress that improving thermal insulation of roofs, walls, doors and windows is the first step, allowing existing heating equipment to work less and cut energy use.

Among heating technologies, air‑conditioners with heat‑pump (cold‑heat) capability are identified as the most energy‑efficient option, followed by gas stoves, with electric stoves consuming the most power. While heat‑pump units require higher upfront costs, they provide precise temperature control and can serve both winter and summer. Gas heaters are cheaper to operate but need proper ventilation and regular safety checks, whereas electric heaters are easy to install but are the least efficient.

Safety concerns also feature prominently, with recommendations to have gas installations inspected by qualified personnel, avoid blocking ventilation, and prevent electrical overloads. Combining better insulation, modern heating systems, programmable thermostats and simple habits such as closing unused rooms can reduce heating expenses while maintaining comfort.
