Argentina imposes fines for Starlink antennas on windshields
Drivers in Argentina are facing traffic fines and potential vehicle impoundment for installing Starlink satellite antennas on their windshields. While the law does not explicitly name Starlink, authorities are applying Article 48, subsection q, of National Transit Law No. 24,449, which prohibits driving with any load or element that disturbs the driver's visibility.
Enforcement has been noted in several jurisdictions, including Neuquén, Santa Cruz, Necochea, and Tierra del Fuego. Fines can reach up to $400,000, and officers may retain the vehicle until the antenna is relocated or removed to correct the safety hazard. Additionally, using an antenna that creates blind spots could lead insurance companies to reject or reduce coverage in the event of an accident.
