Argentina economic indicators show mixed trends in inflation and confidence

Argentina is experiencing varied economic shifts as inflation remains resistant to dropping below 2% monthly. Private consultancies, including Equilibra and Analytica, project October inflation will fall between 1.8% and 2%, following a 1.9% increase in September. While the official INDEC data is expected on November 12, analysts warn that seasonal price hikes in food and energy, alongside potential climate impacts from El Niño, may hinder further deceleration.

In the education sector, the Buenos Aires provincial government has authorized private schools receiving state subsidies to increase tuition fees by up to 3% in both November and December. The Association of Private Teaching Institutes of Argentina (AIEPA) noted that these increases, intended to offset recent teacher salary agreements, still fail to fully cover rising operational costs. AIEPA estimates that unrecovered costs represent approximately 25% of a monthly fee.

Public sentiment and sector confidence show divergent paths. The Government Confidence Index, published by the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, rose 0.9% in October to 1.95 points, despite a significant 20.7% decline since the end of last year. Meanwhile, agricultural producer confidence saw a slight 2% increase to 150 points, though producers remain cautious due to political uncertainty surrounding the 2027 elections and climate risks.
