Argentina inflation rises to 2.1% in July amid seasonal holiday spending

Argentina's Consumer Price Index (IPC) rose by 2.1% in July, an acceleration from the 1.9% recorded in June. The year-on-year inflation rate reached 33.8%, and accumulated inflation for the first seven months of 2026 stood at 19.3%. The housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuels category experienced the highest annual increase at 48.9%.

Analysts and the government attribute the July uptick largely to seasonal factors related to winter holidays. Specifically, recreation, culture, restaurants, and hotels saw significant price increases due to heightened demand. Seasonal goods overall rose by 4.5% during the month. Core inflation, which excludes volatile and regulated items, was recorded at 1.8%.

Economic projections from the Fundación Libertad y Progreso and the Central Bank's Market Expectations Survey (REM) suggest a continued deceleration. Forecasts for August hover around 1.8%, with expectations that monthly inflation may remain below 2% for the remainder of the year. To support this trend and stabilize the wholesale dollar, the Central Bank (BCRA) has reduced daily reserve purchases from an average of $100 million in July to $33 million in August.
