Argentina inflation trends face social pressure for income growth

Inflation in Argentina appears to have plateaued, with projections suggesting monthly increases of between 1.8% and 2% for October. This follows a trend where monthly inflation has remained relatively stable since July, after hitting a 14-month low of 1.7% in August.

While the government maintains an anti-inflationary strategy, public sentiment is shifting. Recent polling indicates a growing gap between official policy and social expectations. A majority of voters, approximately 53%, believe inflation is not controlled and that current incomes are insufficient. Furthermore, surveys show a significant preference for economic policies aimed at improving population income rather than focusing solely on price stability, with one report stating 78% of respondents prefer income-oriented policies.

Food and beverage prices continue to exert upward pressure on the index, particularly in categories like vegetables and fruits, which has partially offset price decreases in other sectors such as clothing.
