Ushuaia authorities investigate luggage theft on Buenos Aires flights

Authorities in Ushuaia have launched an investigation into reports of theft and tampering with passenger luggage on commercial flights between Buenos Aires and Ushuaia. The complaints, which primarily involve flights operated during the first half of August 2026, involve similar patterns of opened suitcases and stolen personal effects.

Judge Sergio Pepe of Instruction Court No. 1 has ordered the unification of these cases to consolidate evidence and reconstruct the movement of luggage from check-in to delivery. The investigation includes requesting information from airlines, ramp and baggage service companies, airport security agencies, and private security providers.

Key measures include identifying personnel involved in baggage handling, reviewing security protocols, access logs, and internal reports. Additionally, judicial authorities will analyze surveillance footage from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery and Malvinas Argentinas International Airport to identify potential blind spots or critical sectors during the loading and unloading processes.
