Argentina investigates UOM union funds and luxury asset acquisitions

Legal proceedings are expanding in Argentina regarding an investigation into the alleged fraudulent administration of funds from the Unión Obrera Metalúrgica (UOM). Prosecutors and complainants have requested a search warrant for the apartment of María Soledad Calle, a businessperson and activist, which is located directly below the residence of former President Cristina Kirchner.

The investigation, led by Federal Judge Julián Ercolini, examines potential fraud and illicit association involving Calle and former UOM leader Abel Furlán. Complainants are seeking to determine if union resources were used to acquire Calle's real estate and other assets.

Additional details revealed in the case include Calle's extensive international travel history, consisting of 114 trips between 2010 and 2026, as well as the acquisition of a luxury BMW vehicle and multiple properties. Calle has denied the allegations, characterizing the legal actions as a dispute over union power and claiming she is being unfairly targeted.
