Latin American regions issue weather alerts amid tropical storms, frost risk and heavy precipitation

Nicaragua's meteorological institute warned that Tropical Wave No. 17, moving over the Pacific on 7 July 2026, will bring strong winds, heavy rain and occasional thunderstorms to the Caribbean and central zones, with maximum temperatures between 30 °C and 36 °C.

Venezuela’s National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology reported that Tropical Wave No. 24 is affecting the Guayana Esequiba region, producing widespread cloudiness, variable rain and electrical discharges across multiple states, including Bolívar, Amazonas and Zulia.

Paraguay’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock issued an agrometeorological alert for a sharp temperature drop expected between 6 and 8 July, raising the risk of frost in the central and southern Eastern Region. The agency recommended protective measures such as thermal covers, irrigation and shelter for livestock.

Argentina’s National Weather Service released several alerts for the Patagonia area. Orange and yellow warnings were issued for heavy rain, snow at high altitudes and wind gusts up to 90 km/h across Neuquén, Río Negro and Chubut provinces. A red‑level rain alert for 8 July targets the most vulnerable zones, predicting accumulations of 60–150 mm and possible mixed rain‑snow events.

In the Argentine province of Chubut, a yellow alert was declared for 7 July for snowfall and rain, with expected snow accumulations of 10–20 cm and rain totals of 10–30 mm.

Separately, the Dominican Republic’s Directorate General of Agro‑risk (DIGERA) and the Ministry of Agriculture held a training session for technicians and producers in Duarte province to enhance preparedness for the upcoming cyclone season, emphasizing preventive planning and protective measures for crops and livestock.
