Argentina issues snowfall alert as Antarctic cold front approaches

The National Weather Service raised the alert level in Nahuel Huapi National Park to orange for heavy snowfall expected on the night of 11 June and into 12 June, with accumulations of 40‑60 cm and wind gusts over 90 km/h. Residents and tourists were urged to check road and trail conditions and to be prepared for possible closures.

Meteorologists also forecast an Antarctic cold front arriving on 19 June, bringing a sharp temperature drop across eight Argentine provinces – Santa Cruz, Chubut, Río Negro, Neuquén, La Pampa, Mendoza, San Luis and southern Buenos Aires. The front could cause frosts below –10 °C in Patagonia and sub‑zero temperatures in central regions, accompanied by snow in mountainous areas and strong winds.
