Argentina issues violet fog alert for Buenos Aires, Entre Ríos and Santa Fe
The National Meteorological Service (SMN) has issued a violet‑level alert for dense fog and persistent mist across the Buenos Aires metropolitan area, Entre Ríos, Santa Fe and northern Buenos Aires province. The alert warns of a significant reduction in visibility that may endanger road traffic. Authorities advise motorists to keep low‑beam and fog lights on, maintain safe following distances, avoid overtaking, and, if visibility drops to zero, pull over at a safe location such as a service station. Speed should be adjusted to the prevailing conditions.
The forecast indicates fog in the early morning, followed by partly to mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will range from a low of 2 °C to a high of 17 °C on Friday, with a marked drop to near‑freezing lows of 2‑3 °C early next week. The alert remains in effect while the phenomenon persists, and drivers are urged to stay informed through official channels.
