Argentina issues Zonda wind and snow alerts for San Juan and Mendoza provinces
The National Meteorological Service (Servicio Meteorológico Nacional) issued a yellow alert for the Zonda wind in San Juan province for Wednesday and Thursday, warning of gusts that may exceed 70 km/h. The alert covers pre‑cordillera zones such as Calingasta, Pocito, Rivadavia, Sarmiento, Ullum, Zonda and the low area of Jáchal, and advises drivers to exercise caution, secure loose objects and monitor updates.
In addition, an orange alert was released for heavy snowfall in the Mendoza cordillera, where accumulations of up to 60 cm are expected and wind gusts may reach 100 km/h, creating white‑out conditions. Strong wind warnings also affect parts of Neuquén, Río Negro, San Juan, and Santa Cruz. The service recommends limiting travel on mountain routes and staying alert to rapidly changing weather.
