Argentina judge denies house arrest for homicide suspect
An Argentine judge has rejected a request for house arrest for Roberto Dalmacio Cayunao, who is accused of the simple homicide of Jesús Daniel González. The incident occurred in the early hours of July 12, 2026, in Ñorquinco, during a celebration following an Argentine national football team victory. According to the prosecution, Cayunao attacked González from behind with a knife, resulting in a fatal wound.
The defense argued for house arrest with an electronic ankle monitor in El Bolsón, citing the principle of innocence and the defendant's cooperation with authorities. However, Judge Ricardo Calcagno upheld the prosecution's position, citing ongoing procedural risks, including the potential for witness intimidation and interference with the investigation. Cayunao will remain in custody at the San Carlos de Bariloche penal establishment until at least November 13, when the preparatory investigation is scheduled to conclude.
