Argentina judge freezes 25 crypto wallets in $LIBRA fraud investigation
Federal judge Marcelo Martínez de Giorgi ordered the immediate freezing of 25 cryptocurrency wallets on six major exchanges—Binance, Bybit, OKX, CoinEx, FixedFloat and Bitfinex—at the request of prosecutor Eduardo Taiano. The measure follows a technical report from the Federal Police’s cyber‑crime unit that traced the flow of funds from the “Team Libra Wallets” to a Solana‑based address and subsequently through multiple blockchain bridges, employing a smurfing technique to obscure the movement of roughly $44 million linked to the $LIBRA token.
The $LIBRA token was promoted by President Javier Milei in February 2025 and its rapid rise and collapse allegedly defrauded more than 40,000 investors, causing losses estimated at about $100 million. The court also ordered the exchanges to provide full KYC documentation and transaction histories for the identified wallets.
Separately, the Federal Chamber of Argentina accepted appeals from victims who had been excluded as complainants. A hearing is scheduled for 10 August, during which judges will decide whether the victims can remain parties to the case.
