Argentina Justice Minister proposes judge promotion

Argentina's Justice Minister, Juan Bautista Mahiques, has formally proposed the appointment of federal judge Daniel Rafecas to the National Chamber of Cassation in Criminal and Correctional Matters. If approved by President Javier Milei and the Senate, this move would create a new vacancy within the Comodoro Py judicial complex, which handles major corruption investigations.

Rafecas currently holds several roles, including presiding over Federal Court 3 and acting as a substitute for Court 6. He is also temporarily managing Court 8, which is overseeing the $LIBRA cryptocurrency investigation involving the President. A transition for Rafecas would necessitate a reorganization of judicial substitutions and the redistribution of sensitive cases, including the AMIA bombing investigation and cases involving former President Alberto Fernández.
