Argentina: Key accounting report filed in legislative corruption case
A key accounting expert report has been submitted in the “Chocolate” case, a major corruption investigation involving the Buenos Aires provincial legislature. The technical study aims to quantify the financial damage caused to the state and determine the specific level of responsibility for the employees involved.
Prosecutor Viviana Arturi has requested clarifications from the experts regarding the report's conclusions. The investigation focuses on the alleged illegal diversion of funds, including a group known as the “49 tarjeteros,” who reportedly received salaries and benefits without performing actual duties. The case is currently in the evidentiary stage as parties evaluate legal strategies, including the possibility of plea bargains.
