Argentina labor market: State overemployment and social program updates

In Tierra del Fuego, Gastón Porfirio, the local delegate for the Ministry of Human Capital, has warned that state employee overemployment is impacting the private labor market. Due to insufficient salaries, many state workers are seeking second or even third jobs in the private sector. This trend creates competition for limited vacancies, particularly affecting young people entering the workforce for the first time and workers attempting to re-enter the market after temporary industrial roles.

Separately, the Ministry of Human Capital has clarified distinctions between various social assistance programs following recent payments. While the 'Fomentar Empleo' and 'Volver al Trabajo' programs share the same payment amount of $78,000, they remain distinct initiatives. 'Fomentar Empleo' is currently only paid to those participating in in-person training courses, as virtual course payments were discontinued in September 2025. Meanwhile, payments for 'Volver al Trabajo' have been suspended for August 2026 due to an ongoing judicial resolution.
