Argentina labor report: 45.2% of workers lack pension contributions
An analysis by the Instituto Argentina Grande (IAG) reveals that 45.2% of workers in Argentina are in a state of labor unprotectedness, lacking pension contributions, stability, or formal structures. This trend has shifted significantly over the last two years, with 626,000 new unprotected positions created, while 56,000 private sector protected jobs and 212,000 public sector jobs were lost. The IAG also introduced the 'blue unemployment' indicator, which reached 15.5% in the first quarter of the year, accounting for those performing precarious tasks while seeking formal work.
Additionally, a report from IERAL of the Fundación Mediterránea highlights a crisis for 'monotributistas' (self-employed taxpayers). It states that no current category is capable of generating sufficient contributions to fund a minimum pension or the Universal Pension for the Elderly (PUAM), even after 40 years of continuous contributions. For example, a man in Category A with 30 years of contributions would only cover 7% of the minimum pension.
