Argentina launches 911 service as Spain rejects 112 integration

In San Jorge, Argentina, municipal authorities inaugurated a 911 emergency service. The ceremony, held in the Mariano Moreno hall of the Municipal Cultural Complex, was led by Mayor Juan Pablo Pellegrino, Senator Esteban Motta and provincial emergency subsecretary Pablo Polito. Pellegrino said, “Este es un sistema que sin dudas va a beneficiar la seguridad de todos los ciudadanos.” The new system is intended to modernize emergency response, allowing citizens to report incidents quickly and safely without visiting police stations.

In Navarra, Spain, the Commission of Personnel of Firefighters and Civil Protection issued a press statement rejecting a plan to route calls from the police numbers 091 and 062 to the general emergency number 112. The commission warned that the change would overload the 112 service, divert resources from true emergencies and was adopted without staff consultation. It argued, “El 112 fue concebido para atender situaciones de urgencia y emergencia, no para asumir la gestión indiscriminada de las llamadas policiales…”.
