Argentina launches awareness campaigns for Phelan-McDermid and Down syndromes

In Argentina, new initiatives are underway to increase visibility and support for individuals with genetic conditions. The Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Argentina Association, in collaboration with the Association of Argentine Journalistic Entities (ADEPA), has launched a national awareness campaign. The goal is to promote early diagnosis and scientific information regarding this rare genetic disorder, which affects neurological development and can often be mistaken for autism.

Simultaneously, the Down Syndrome Association of the Argentine Republic (ASDRA) is observing Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Through its “Ponete en su lugar” campaign, the organization aims to highlight the rights, autonomy, and capacities of people with Down syndrome, specifically addressing social barriers and the importance of discussing topics such as sexuality and interpersonal relationships.
