Argentina launches first federal mammography map to improve breast cancer detection
The Asociación Civil Surcos and Fundación Instituto Natura have presented Argentina’s first federal Mammography Map. This unprecedented survey analyzes installed capacity, technological status, and human resources for breast cancer detection across 23 of the country's 24 provinces.
In the public sector, the map identifies 404 mammography machines across 375 public establishments. Of these, 328 were operational at the time of the survey, forming the backbone of screening services for populations without private medical coverage. The study aims to optimize existing resources, noting that some facilities have underutilized capacity that could be leveraged to expand access.
In a separate regional initiative, the Ministry of Public Health of Tucumán deployed a mobile mammography unit to the Siprosa headquarters. This effort, part of the ‘Pink October’ campaign, provides screenings and preventive counseling to administrative workers to promote early diagnosis and community health awareness.
