Argentina launches national astrotourism training program

Argentina has launched its first National Astrotourism Training program to strengthen astronomical tourism and scientific outreach across the country. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Secretariat of Tourism, Environment and Sports, the National Parks Administration, the Argentine Astronomical Association, and the Andean Regional Office of Astronomy for Development (OAD-UAI).

Scheduled to run from late August through September, the free program aims to capitalize on Argentina’s unique natural conditions, such as vast dark skies and high-value landscapes, to position the nation in the global astrotourism market. The curriculum covers experience design, digital tools, scientific communication strategies, and the protection of dark skies. It is intended for provincial and municipal managers, tour guides, park rangers, and observatory staff. Participants who complete the program and a final project will receive official certification from the OAD-UAI.

In a related effort to promote scientific knowledge, astronomy outreach events such as ‘Más Allá de la Luz’ have been held in Entre Ríos. These sessions focus on making complex research accessible to the public, highlighting the importance of sharing scientific findings to increase social impact.
