Argentina lawyers to elect National Council of the Magistracy representatives

Lawyers across Argentina are preparing for a significant institutional election on October 20 to select four representatives for the National Council of the Magistracy (Consejo de la Magistratura de la Nación). These representatives will serve the 2026-2030 term. The Council is a 20-member body responsible for selecting judges, administering the Judiciary, and handling judicial discipline and accusations.

Four lists have been submitted to the Electoral Board of the Argentine Federation of Bar Associations (FACA) to compete for these seats. The election will follow a single electoral district system with individual, secret, and voluntary voting. Regulations include representation criteria for lawyers from both the City of Buenos Aires and the interior of the country, as well as gender parity.

Eduardo Bittar, president of the Córdoba Bar Association, has confirmed his candidacy as part of the ‘Unidad en defensa de la abogacía’ list. Bittar stated that Córdoba lacks a strong voice within the Council. The upcoming election will replace outgoing representatives Jimena de la Torre, María Fernanda Vázquez, César Grau, and Alberto Maques.
